LWI – Overheat Alarm
An audible
overheat alarm with a user adjustable temperature setting. Every engine runs at slightly differing
temperatures and the majority of commercially available overheat alarms don’t
allow the user to specify when they want the unit to alarm.
Fitting
Instructions
The control
box should be fitted in a dry area and somewhere that it can be heard whilst
under way. It is suggested that the cover is removed and holes drilled through
the rear of the box to allow the box to be screwed to a suitable surface.
Electrical
supply – a fused connection should be made to the ignition supply so that the
unit is only live when the engine is running (Brown is +ve)
.
Temperature
sensor – this can be fitted to either a water pipe on the engine or the “wet”
part of the exhaust near the manifold using either cable ties or electrical
tape.
If fitted to
a water pipe on the engine the unit will act as an engine overheat alarm but if
fitted to the exhaust it will warn of limited or no water flow through the
exhaust indicating a blocked water intake or impellor damage – your choice.
Setting Up
After
installing the unit, run the engine up to normal operating temperature and
remove the alarm cover (taking care not to damage the wires to the sounder).
Turn the adjustment screw clockwise until the alarm is heard then
anti-clockwise until the alarm stops (you may have to re-adjust this following
sea trials). Replace the cover and the LWI Overheat Alarm is ready for use.
It is prudent
to repeat the set up a couple of times a season to ensure the alarm is
functioning as required.

This device
is designed as an aid to engine management. No liability will be accepted for
any damage whatsoever caused by using the alarm.
